The design is one that we are all familiar with, having encountered it in one form or another. It is available in sizes Small, Medium, and Large. These sizes are suitable for children as well as adults. The inside of the helmet is well-padded with EPS foam to reduce the amount of impact that reaches the head in the even of a collision.

On the outside is a combination of PVC and PC. PVC is used to preserve the visual elements of the helmet when exposed to direct heat and other adverse weather conditions. The PC forms a crusted exterior that is impact-resistant. 

Scattered around the helmet are several air vents. These are there to facilitate the free movement of air in and around the helmet. They reduce sweat and help the user keep a cool head. Pun intended. There are two variations of each design. One is in the form of a half cap helmet that offers protection for the top part of your head. The other version also protects the lower rear end of the head, which according to the manufacturer, is commonly implicated in injuries. 

A knock on the outer part of the helmet will reassure you of the robust nature of the outer hardshell casing that is made of polycarbonate. The inner part of the helmet features a welded EPS foam. To allow breathability, there is room left between the skull cap and the shell. There are 8 air channels to aid the ventilation.

The Retrospec CM-1 Bike Helmet brings design and shape that we are all familiar with. There are six rectangular air vents that run from the front to the rear end of the helmet over the top. The ventilation could not be any better than this. This does not come at the expense of the protective nature of the helmet. 

It features the ABS shell on the exterior. The interior part is made out of EPS foam that is designed to be shock absorbent. There are two interchangeable pads to give the user room for fitting adjustments. 

To complement the vents, there is a sweat management system in place. This is in the form of the DEWcollector interior padding. It wicks moisture to keep the user dry and the helmet odor-free. We would not have done it justice if we fail to mention the versatility of sizing that this helmet brings. There are three sizes to choose from. The straps and removable pads further enhance the room for adjustment.

Not only does this enhance breathability, but it also works well with the sweat management system.

There is a SweatSaver liner on all of the contact points inside the helmet. This is a material that wicks away any moisture allowing the rider to remain dry and free of odor. It is held in place by a hook and loop tape. One can then remove this liner for a wash when the need arises. 

Impact protection is left to the ABS outer shell and the padding that is on the inside of the helmet. 

For easy fitting, the chin strap does the job. Although it has to be said that there is little room for adjustment beyond this feature. You can rest easy in knowing that there is a 3-month warranty cover from the manufacturer.

If we had to distill what the best skateboard helmets ought to have it would be a good outer shell, ventilation, sweat management, inside padding and adjustable fittings.
